HYEN
HYEN is a York based STEM education company, founded in 2024 and working from the Innovation Centre on York Science Park. The company was set up on a straightforward premise: STEM got buried in theory, and the way to dig it out is to put real tools back in the hands of makers, innovators and the curious, at every age. HYEN designs and manufactures its own STEM products, kits and teaching resources in York, and delivers hands-on workshops, events and talks across the UK and further afield, reaching schools, libraries, museums, community venues and workplaces. Its work is supported by Innovate UK, UnLtd and the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority, and the company is a Phase One Partner in the University of York’s startup incubator.
Our workshops and events cover schools and colleges, libraries and museums, community groups and corporate teams, alongside adult learning and talks delivered in person or remotely. Flagship sessions include Magnetronics, where learners build working circuits from scratch, Sticky Circuits, which pairs electronics with design and making, and micro:bit sessions that take coding off the screen and into physical builds. Custom programmes are developed around an organisation’s own themes. HYEN also sells its kits directly and works with partners on STEM provision consultancy, social value and CSR delivery, speaker bookings and sponsored community programmes.
