York Science Park - Gateway Policy
“The University of York thrives on collaboration. We can achieve more when we identify shared interests and build partnerships” Charlie Jeffery, Vice Chancellor, University of York
This gateway policy applies to all companies in private offices at York Science Park, including The Guildhall.
In the event where we have multiple companies interested in space, priority will be given to startups (particularly Phase One alumni), micro-enterprises (less than 10 employees) and small businesses (10-99 employees).
The vision of York Science Park is to be an entrepreneurial ecosystem at the heart of the University of York.
We will do this by facilitating connections to leading academics and expertise, knowledge and facilities.
York Science Park will provide this through:
Being a catalyst for economic growth, by bringing together companies, innovators, funders, students, staff and entrepreneurs, alongside the University of York’s knowledge and research base in a stimulating and supportive environment. Tenants are expected to proactively engage in networking opportunities provided by York Science Park and The University of York.
Tenants are encouraged to engage in at least one of the following activities:
- Research contracts or collaborations
- Student internships and placements
- Sponsorship of Chairs (Professorship) or research posts
- Use of specialist facilities at the University
- Engaged in training or continuing professional development from the University
- Knowledge Transfer Partnerships
- Scope for development of a major new area of academic or research activity that aligns with the University’s Strategic Plan
- Other contractual agreement with the University that would support co-location
At the point of any lease renewal, tenants may be asked to demonstrate evidence of the above activities.
Please note: The above may be relaxed by agreement with York Science Park and the University of York for special cases, e.g. if a professional institution wished to be based on the Park, or where development would bring significant benefit to the regional economy.
