Almost 40% of resident companies said they had increased staff numbers in the last 12 months and even more are planning to expand in the next 12 months. 20% had already appointed local graduates as employees once they had finished their studies, with this number set to grow.

With regards to pay, working for a company on York Science Park is becoming an extremely attractive proposition for job seekers as between 30% to 34% of its resident business stated that they pay above average salaries.

Tracey Smith, managing director, York Science Park said:  “It’s great to see such positive news from our residents and the fact that such a large number have taken on more staff in the last 12 months and even more are planning to expand in the next 12.  A commitment to developing people is so important for business success, and the fact that we have such a huge pool of talent on our doorstep at the University of York plus extremely well developed relationships with individual departments really sets us apart and helps our residents attract the very best applicants.”
Fraser Anderson, Director of GradIntel who is based at York Science Park commented: “We recently had great success at the University of York’s summer careers fair, where we met with many of the 500 plus student attendees. Since the initial meeting at this event, we went on to make three successful hires in development, business and marketing roles. Students and graduates are at the heart of GradIntel, so we were thrilled to take these recent graduates on board.  As a business, matching students with opportunities is our priority. Our online system uses verified university data to match students with relevant postgraduate study or employment opportunities.”
