York is proud to have been awarded the designation of a UNESCO City of Media Arts, making it one of only seven cities globally and unique in the UK, to be connected to a network of over 70 creatively connected cities in 32 countries across the world.

The creative sector in York builds on the £100 million investment in the media arts infrastructure in the city, including film and TV studio space at Heslington Studios on the University of York East Campus and 200,000 sq ft at The Yorkshire Studios on the outskirts of the city.

York is also the UKs first ‘gigabit city’, delivering citywide ultra-fast fibre broadband infrastructure with speeds of up to 1Gb/s to more than 15,000 homes and businesses across the city.
