Peterloo Massacre director Mike Leigh in conversation as part of York Festival of Ideas

In his epic film Peterloo, Oscar-nominated filmmaker Mike Leigh portrays a bloody episode in British history – the infamous Peterloo Massacre. His drama movingly depicts the important events of 16 August 1819 in Manchester, when local militia, backed up by professional cavalry, charged into a peaceful crowd who had gathered to demand democratic reform and economic redress.

Mike will be speaking on Sunday 9th June, from 2pm to 3pm at the Piazza Building as part of the Festival of Ideas.

The event will be free to attend, with tickets available in May.
