November’s meet-up will focus on legal issues associated with innovation, in particular intellectual property (the protection you can get for software, hardware, systems, the pitfalls, the costs, the timescales, etc.) and contracts.

Our main speaker will be Fiona Kingscott from Langleys.

Fiona is a solicitor at Langleys, and specialises in commercial law and intellectual property law. She has been with Langleys for three years, and advises a wide range of businesses on their contracts, compliance with regulations in the field of commercial transactions, and the protection of their intellectual property. Prior to this, she spent a few years at the University of Leeds, advising academics on their collaborations, with a focus on medical technologies. Prior to that, she worked at Lupton Fawcett solicitors in Leeds for six years, in their busy IP department, working alongside IP litigators. Her first position was as an in-house lawyer at Filtronic plc, where she trained, on secondment from Schofield Sweeney solicitors, and spent five years in total.

We are also planning a couple of shorter talks covering topical initiatives in the rail sector.

After the talks there will be opportunities for questions & answers; and further discussion around the topic.

Venue is Langley’s offices: Queens House, Micklegate, York, YO1 6WG (5 minutes walk from York station)

Please arrive from 4:45pm for a 5pm start.

We’ll aim to finished by 6.30pm, followed by networking and drinks.
