The Aptamer group (comprising of Aptamer Solutions and Aptamer Diagnostics)  focuses on the development of nucleic acid aptamers for a number of diverse uses, ranging from research & development, diagnostics to therapeutic applications. Aptamers are short DNA or RNA sequences that offer high-affinity and specificity to a vast range of targets such as proteins, cells, peptides, micro-organisms and small molecules. They are versatile and cost effective and offer a complementary or alternative solution to antibodies. In fact, there are some problems that simply cannot be overcome with antibodies, leaving a niche gap that aptamers can fill.

Aptamer group focus on four developmental areas of business:

1)  bespoke aptamer selection projects for private, public and academic organisations
2)  commercialisation of aptamers developed in house
3)  development of biosensors through technology collaborations 
4)  innovation and development of aptamer technology in other complementary fields

The Aptamer group of companies was first founded in March 2008 in order address the need for custom nucleic acid aptamer selections in areas where antibody based methods are not suitable and where rapid target validation is required. We have a clear goal of developing innovative aptamer solutions for the research and diagnostic fields. We are able to achieve this through our own proprietary method of aptamer selection allowing us to produce and commercialise aptamers for use around the world. 
Our proprietary high-throughput aptamer selection processes allows us to offer a flexible and competitive price structure for the development of RNA and DNA aptamers. The Biorenewables Development Centre (BDC) is a not-for-profit company which provides industry with new processes to convert plants and biowastes into high value products. 

The Centre for Hyperpolarisation in Magnetic Resonance (CHyM) is a joint research centre created by the Department of Chemistry and the Department of Psychology at the University of York. CHyM is associated with the Hull York Medical School, the York Neuroimaging Centre and the Department of Biology.
