Often the simplest ideas are the most brilliant. Back in the early 1990’s, a group of academics and politicians put their heads together to formulate a strategy for generating economic growth in York. With hindsight, the answer seems blindingly obvious. Why not establish a business park in the heart of the University of York, so hi-tech businesses can have easy access to top-class academic talent? Since York Science Park launched in 1994. It has helped hundreds of businesses to get off the ground. Today more than 1,500 people work at the science park. Over the last 10 years, more than £800m has been invested in York’s technology and technology infrastructure, which has led to the development of a cluster of more than 500 science and technology-related businesses.  Read more...

TWO new world class scientific research centres at the University of York- both of which will have close links to industry- have been launched by Cabinet Minister and a senior Government adviser. The Business Secretary Vince Cable opened the Biorenewables Development Centre (BDC) while the Government’s Chief Scientific Advisor Professor Sir John Beddington opened York Plasma Institute (YPI).  Read more...

BEN Allen, has won the Shell LiveWIRE Young Entrepreneur Of The Year award. The 27-year-old from Scarborough, who set up Oomph Wellness (Our Organisation Makes People Happy)at York Science Park's Business incubator, Springboard, to offer exercise, dance and art therapy sessions for the elderly people in care homes was awarded a £10,000 prize. Read more...
