Open Challenge
BRE is looking for SMEs with innovative products or services which could lower carbon emissions in the built environment. The open challenge is part of the Hertfordshire Low Carbon Innovation Network project, run by BRE in partnership with us and the Green Triangle and part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund. Eligible SMEs will have the opportunity to participate in an innovation showcase, as well as other meet the buyer events, and receive 12 hours of free innovation support.

Benefits of participating in the project

The project provides eligible SMEs with the opportunity to meet potential buyers of innovation.  Those innovators whose solutions most closely match the needs of the demand side are invited to pitch their innovation directly to the project’s client partners.  Participating SMEs are also able to network with demand side organisations at innovation events.

Eligible SMEs who participate in the project receive 12 hours of free innovation support, provided by BRE.  Innovations are assessed for Market Applicability and Technical Viability and the highest scoring eligible SMEs (who have completed 12 hours of innovation support) are invited to pitch directly to the potential buyer organisations.

Innovation support

A range of free innovation support is available, depending on the product/ service and its development stage.  Support might include:

  • Expert assessment of innovation performance
  • Market briefings directly relating to the innovation
  • Fit to supply sessions
  • Workshops on communicating innovation benefits
  • Understanding the client approach to investment risk.
