Front-End Web Developer - SimOmics

We are looking to appoint a keen and technically able candidate to join our growing team
based in York. Your role will be to assist the front-end development of web-based
evidencing tools that serve our clients in the pharmaceutical, agrochemical and
environmental industries.

Demonstrable experience of front-end web development using modern javascript
frameworks is essential, and this role would particularly suit a candidate with experience
of, and an interest in, data visualisation, user interface and user experience design. An
ability to work within a team of developers is key, along with the drive to see a young
company succeed.

Key duties
Your primary duty will be to work closely with other team members to design and build the
front-ends to our web-based tools. You will operate within our current workflow, which at
present includes: back-end servers written in Python using Django; front-end interfaces
written using the Vue.js framework; build and packaging system using Webpack and NPM; software version control using Git; user-interface testing software written in Python using the Selenium framework; and deployment of web-tools to AWS. You will work across a range of different tools and projects, which each integrate SimOmics core technologies. 
Specific duties will involve, but are not limited to: developing web-based user interfaces
and reusable interface components; designing and implementing data visualisations; and
designing and implement interface-testing strategies.

You will have good written and spoken English language ability, and the following skills:

  • Javascript (ES6), CSS, HTML
  • Modern web frameworks (Vue.js, Angular, React)
  • Version control systems
  • Interfacing with back-end APIs
  • Experience developing software within team
  • Writing unit tests
  • Developing data visualisations
  • Graphic design
  • User interface and/or user experience design
  • Python
  • Back-end web frameworks (Django)
  • Build and packaging tools (Webpack)

Based on the York Science Park adjacent to the University of York, SimOmics is a small
software company spun-out from the University of York’s Department of Electronic
Engineering, Hull/York Medical School and Department of Biology. SimOmics have
developed a range of web-based products and services that support evidencing through
modelling and effective use of data for toxicological risk and environmental impact
